Bringing down the hammer

Former Thai junta chief Prayuth Chan-o-cha is out of his job as prime minister for the time being.
Thailand’s Constitutional Court suspended him as PM last week as it weighs a petition from opposition lawmakers, who claim the ex-army chief has exceeded his constitutionally limited eight years in office.
Prayuth first became prime minister in August 2014, a few months after leading a military coup. He remains defense minister for now until the court decides whether to reinstate him as PM or demote him from the role permanently. Prawit Wongsuwan, the deputy Prime Minister, is now the acting PM.
